Zvuk metal hurlant. Riz Ahmed is one of those actors, you simply cannot take your eyes off. It's not solely because of his good looks. He's always intense and, most importantly, he always makes you care about the characters he's portraying. In this case, he portrays a rock drummer who is losing his hearing.
As with most of his roles, he more than did his homework. Ahmed moved to Brooklyn for a few months and learned to play drums, he also spent a lot time with people from the deaf community. Having two partially deaf relatives, I could relate to this film. Especially one relative who refused to learn sign language, they would rather read lips. Thinking of my relatives initially denying their hearing loss, this film really hit home.
Why are people bringing up Riz being Pakistani? With every role, will he continue to be defined by his background? His character was named Ruben, it's assumed his character was Hispanic. Riz can play other nationalities and ethnic groups beyond his own South Asian background. He can certainly pass for Hispanic, especially in this film. When considering Riz for a role, directors and producers should think outside the box.
The ending was extremely effective, but not a surprise at all.
Another excellent performance from Riz Ahmed. A few more films like this and he will finally have earned his Oscar.

As mentioned previously, I did run Troubleshooter and it did not find anything it could correct. I just now ran it again with the same outcome. I also did the checks to make sure that the speakers weren't being muted or the volume reduced by a hardware switch. They do not appear to be. The system appears and behaves as if it had working speakers - except it doesn't produce any sound. I suspect that the reason sound worked on this system under Win 8. 1 was because there was a 3rd party sound driver on board from earlier versions of Windows. I don't know which one and cannot go back and check. Windows 10 doesn't identify the sound component, but the original driver Dell provided for this system was for Sigmatel STAC 92xx C-Major High Definition Audio. Can anyone suggest a driver I might try for Windows 10?? I just went to the Dell Support drive to see what the most recent SigmaTel audio driver would be for this system. The best I could find was one they offered for Vista: SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC Vn. 6. 10. 0. 5614. I figured I had nothing to lose by trying it, so I did. Install went OK, and after the requested reboot I had sound!! Problem solved. 3 people were helped by this reply · I did the same. Downloaded the self extracting driver file from Dell then updated the audio driver through device manger. I too went to Dell support site and downloaded the SigmaTel High Definition Audio Codec that they had listed for Vista 64-bit which is version 6. 5866 (file name). Extracted but cancel set up. Then updated driver for the device listed under 'Sound and Video Game Controllers' in device manager by pointing it to the aforementioned extracted files. Now I have sound from speakers and output from BOTH front jacks. Only thing now is that the Windows10 built in "Audio Enhancements" conflict and had to be disabled.
